We're taking part in the Big Give Christmas Challenge

We're delighted to announce that we’re taking part in the Big Give’s Christmas Challenge. For one week only (from the 28th of November to the 5th December), donations made to InCommon will be doubled! This will be InCommon’s first ever fundraising campaign, so it’s a chance to make a big difference to a growing charity.

Our aim is to raise £8,000 between the 28th of November and the 5th of December. This is enough to connect a retirement scheme with a local school for a full year of activities as part of our Connect programme.

We would love it if you could support our campaign and help us build more age-friendly communities for all.

What is the Big Give Christmas Challenge?

  • The Big Give Christmas Challenge is the UK’s biggest match-funded campaign, raising £28.5 million to date.

  • Taking place from the 28th of November to the 5th of December, any donations made during this week will be doubled - that’s one donation, twice the impact.

  • You can find out more on our campaign page or get in touch.

Why intergenerational connection matters

  • We have an ageing population (by 2040, over 40% of the UK population will be aged 50 and over) and yet ageism is rife. 1 in 2 people worldwide are ageist and Britain is one of the most age-segregated countries.

  • Intergenerational connections are one of the most effective ways to combat ageism, particularly among children (ageist attitudes can develop as young as 6 years old).

  • By bringing generations together, younger and older generations have the opportunity to build trust and understand each other - an essential part of building age-friendly communities.

  • Find out more about the importance of intergenerational contact for combatting ageism in the World Health Organisation’s global report on ageism.
